Imagine being able to turn your cell phone off for the weekend, and having so much fun that you forget to check it until Sunday morning. That's what it's like when you step into the tavern, and enter a world of fantasy that comes to life around you. All weekend, you'll feel like a hero (or maybe evil mastermind) of an adventure novel that is being told by our expert staff. The world will come to life, and before you realize what's happened, you'll be doing things you didn't even realize were possible!
Before the weekend, you'll be able to download the rulebook which explains the basic rules of the game, how to create a character, and the history of the universe you'll be participating in. When you arrive on-site, there will also be a quick introductory meeting before we begin, to review the rules and cover any safety tips.
Next, you and your group will be introduced (if you're not already acquaintances), and you'll be brought to our new player area. From there, you will be guided into our world, and into the tavern where you will step into the world of Draconis, and the adventure will begin!
If you've never been to an event like ours, it's natural to feel a little overwhelmed or intimidated. The best way to have fun and get into the feel of the game is to make friends, and talk to everyone. Our players are very friendly, and are always willing to help new players get into the game so you have fun. You can look forward to meeting people from all walks of life, and making some really great friends!
No, not at all. Think of this as an adventure novel that you've just stepped into! You're a character in a grand story (Lord of the Rings style), and it's in your hands to make it great! What we WILL provide you with is a framework within which you may achieve greatness. There will be many stories and quests going on around you and your group, and if you get stuck at any point, we'll provide you and your adventuring party with direction so you can achieve your goals!
Remember, your actions will affect the actions and outcomes of not only your party, but possibly of other adventuring parties as well. There will undoubtedly be danger as you try to slay a monster, or rescue a prisoner, but YOU could be the hero that ultimately saves the day!
We take pride in the great people we have on staff at Draconis. You'll find our staff to be filled with a diverse group of people, with different experiences, interests, and styles, but the one thing they all have in common is their love of playing the game, and willingness to try something out of the ordinary.
The people that play Draconis are along the same lines. Great people with diverse interests, and an willingness to try something new, and have a great weekend!
Draconis is "adventuring party" oriented. By that we mean that you'll be part of an adventure group of six people all weekend. You'll be interacting with all of the other players and staff members, but your main adventuring party will be comprised of that group of six.
If you'd like to come with five other friends or family members, you can be your own adventuring party together. If you come with fewer people, we can fill your group with other players, or we'll place you in a party we think you'll enjoy. For many participants, coming with people they already know is a terrific way to get even closer.
Since each party is comprised of six people, we recommend balancing your abilities so that everyone makes a contribution. For example, we wouldn't recommend putting 6 wizards together, because they won't have anyone to heal them. If you sign up with fewer than six players, and need a few players to fill out your adventuring party, we'll do our best to give you players that balance your group, skill-wise.
Naturally, your adventuring party will be one of eight parties each weekend. You'll see them all during the weekend, and there may be times when you may want to cooperate with them in order to accomplish your quests. We recommend keeping other adventuring parties on a friendly level, that way, when you need help, they'll be willing to give it to you.
There are plenty of reasons to come with friends, but don't let that stop you from attending as an individual player! At Draconis, you'll be given a chance to do things you've never done before, and to find out more about yourself. For many people, it's much easier to do than when you're not surrounded by people you know. Adventuring parties bond quickly, and even if you're with five people you've never met before, they won't feel like strangers for long!
Draconis is a heroic fantasy medieval live action adventure group whose intent is to bring the Dungeons and Dragons world to life. Our goal is to inspire players to create characters that will grow and develop as the world progresses. The atmosphere is neither dark nor light. It has a healthy mix of both, and the outcome of many confrontations are based solely on player actions. There's no guarantee that you'll succeed at whatever quest or task you're attempting, that's up to you! The plots in our games are designed to provide both mental and physical challenges to our players, and you can count on the fact that things aren't always as they seem. The nobles in our kingdom are adept at playing the game of deception.
While playing Draconis, you'll be expected to remain in character 100% of the time. Keep in mind that making anachronistic jokes, or referencing modern events, technology, people, etc takes everyone out of the immersive weekend experience we're trying to maintain, so please avoid stepping out of character.
With the exception of obvious circumstances (emergencies, check in/out, sleep time, showers, etc), once you are signed in, you should remain in character from the time the game starts Friday night, until it ends on Sunday. Everything that occurs at our event is considered to be in game at all times during game play. The only out of game buildings are the staff sleeping areas, kitchen, designated player sleeping arrangements, restrooms, and emergency facilities.
You are expected, at all times, to respect all other players and staff, and obey all directions given to you by staff members. REMEMBER, you are playing a character. This is a game, not reality.
At Draconis, you are role playing a character that you have created. The race, skills, spells, background, personality, and costume for your character are all defined by you, and you are expected to remain within this persona for the entire weekend (with the exceptions listed above). The game takes place all around you, and whatever you see happening, is actually happening within the game, and your actions cannot be taken back, changed, or re-done. Once you swing a sword and hit someone, even a friend, you can't take it back. The rule is simple, what you see happening is actually happening and cannot be undone.
Our staff members may possibly be playing multiple characters or monsters, so you may see the same person in different rolls. Remember to treat them as different people, or creatures, within the world. For example, the same staff member may play the role of a high lord of the land, and they may also play a different roll as a bandit in the woods. They're two different people within the Draconis world, so please treat them as such.
